What a lovely evening at the Festival of Light last year. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for December and thank you so much to all our fantastic Mount Florida neighbours  for coming along and making it the night that it was.

There are a lot of thank yous to make for this:

First off Kate, Godsal and Kate for their brilliant work on securing the funding then working with other parents and community members on pulling this fantastic event together.

Carol, the Head teacher of Mount Florida Primary for saying YES again to ideas and being so supportive, along with her amazing school staff.

Bob Moyles for his brilliant work with all the children to make the Beastie.

CARCAP for their support of the crafting project with spaces to make and store it.

All the parents and children who helped out.

Brass Eye and Mount Florida Primary School Choir

Alan McAteer for the fantastic photos of the event.

And finally the funders:
International Year of Light 2015 and Stalled Spaces, through Glasgow City Council.

The event was also very kindly supported by 83rd Boys’ Brigade, The Church of Pentecost, Clincarthill Church, InHouse Stewards, Lassani, MoFloCoCo, Stalled Spaces, Urban Roots, Greggs, Tesco Express, Vegware and Wholefoods (Giffnock).

Some photos from the festive evening on the 4 December . Thanks to everyone who helped on the day, turned up on the evening and a big thanks to the choir for such cheery singing. We also welcomed the Lord Provost and other councillors to the event to meet the neighbours of Mount Florida.

Through events like this one we hope to increase awareness of this sadly neglected space and of the School’s plans to regenerate and use the space productively as an asset for the pupils and the local community.

Due to its location, Mount Florida Primary School has very limited outdoor space for the pupils to use.

Our Parent Partnership, in conjunction with local and national government bodies, is looking at how the space around the School could be best used to enhance the learning experience of children from this community. Our aim is to regenerate and improve these spaces in a way that will also benefit the wider community in the long term.

We’d like to see the Letherby Triangle becoming a little oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle around us and hope this event is just the beginning.

Letherby Triangle Festive event

This Wednesday there will be mulled wine, carol singing and a chance to meet your neighbours.

Meanwhile the parent partnership and Mount Florida Out of Schoolcare Project will be crafting decorations to brighten up the space and thanks to gifts from IKEA, Tesco and parents from the school there will be light, refreshments and FUN!

Look forward to seeing everybody there.
