It’s been a busy week for Mount Florida Primary School and scattercraft. Since installing the fabulous bottle top project with Rags to Riches in the school last week the sun has come out and it looks amazing but we haven’t been resting on our laurels!

Parents, staff and children headed off out to lunch on Wednesday for the Education Scotland Awards and although we didn’t win we were immensely proud to be national finalists in the ‘Parents as Partners in Learning’ category with some other excellent parents.

Thursday proved to be more fruitful as we came away as WINNERS in School Category for The Evening Times Streets Ahead awards and made the front page of the newspaper yesterday. Everybody was really excited by that and one key factor in us winning was the amazing work done around the Commonwealth Games and beyond through craft so thank you everyone for being involved !!!!

Not content with award ceremonies scattercraft got involved with the GSA Degree Shows and worked with the art school to install knitting from the craft bomb last year on the scaffolding currently covering the Reid Building. Well done Crissie who made that happen and also another wee outing for all the fab work that happened last year.

So all that remains now this week is to send in the final report for the Celebrate It grant that we received to cover all of the amazing work we did last year. We are incredibly grateful for that grant and what it allowed us to achieve in the school and local community for the Commonwealth Games 2014 – thank you Big Lottery Fund and Celebrate It!!!!!

scattercraft update

Well it’s not been quite a year since the last post but is has definitely not been recent. That doesn’t mean that scattercraft has been quiet. If you have been following us on Twitter and Facebook you will see that weekly meetups with Knitwits at Langside Library and a new little meetup at the Clockwork Beer Company have been happening on Tuesday evenings. A few eager beaver parents have been working on an after school craft club and this has been going since about last September in CARCAP with great stuff for school events and just for fun at events in the school.

The latest project at the CraftClub has been with Rags to Riches and the children (and parents) have been learning about recycling and design. This fab new work will be installed in the school playground at the end of the month and is part of a much bigger scheme that the parents, children and staff have been working on to redevelop the space. As part of this we currently are looking for as many votes as possible on the AVIVA Community Fund in order to win £25,000 towards major work to convert the playground from a bare tarmac surface into a play space that inspires and allows all of our children opportunities to be creative through play. PLEASE VOTE FOR US IF YOU CAN.

And on a final note.

The Mount Florida Parent Partnership are up for an Education Scotland Award for Parents involved in Learning. We are down to the final 3 so will let you know how we do at the Awards Ceremony on 10 June – wish us luck!!!!.

Just to say we have added some chairs so you can enjoy your lunch or local takeaway in Letherby Triangle… though please use bins for rubbish afterwards thanks x.

Wandered through as people were leaving Hampden today and loving the reaction to the knitting. Will have to have a ‘hug a lamppost’ photo competition soon!

#Glasgow2014 #craftbomb INSTALLED

Mount Florida is looking vibrant and colourful and it’s all thanks to over 280 children and adults who have contributed to the project over the last 3 months. We have had an amazing and inspiring 2 days installing. Lots of lovely feedback, including a lady from Vanuatu, now living in Glasgow, who found a photo on Facebook and googled Mount Florida to find it before she came to visit it. She managed to meet Sarah who made the work! Here’s the photo

The other unexpected lovely enjoyment about the installation was seeing people linger in Letherby Triangle and use it. Spending some time in there has given us ideas for the future and it was great to see people hanging out there. The sun helped with installation and made it a brilliant couple of days and really enjoyed chatting to people who stopped by to thank us for the project and comment on the work. There are loads of photos on flickr so pop over to our page there to see them.

If you would like to know more about the project, scroll down through the previous blog posts, or visit the project page or down load the press release here SCATTERCRAFT PRESS RELEASE JULY 2014

We hope you enjoy seeing the craftbomb as much as we have had making it!

WELCOME TO MOUNT FLORIDA – a great place to live in Glasgow
